Fireworks in the city

Well, here it is, Independence Day weekend, and the fireworks start to show up at Government One. What truly happened between the Mayor of Toledo (AKA Carty) and the former Police Chief will only be known between them, and the other city Officials in the room, but the results are sill known. The Chief quit, packed his office, and is basically called Carty any name he can think of. Our poor City of Toledo spokesman is left to defend Carty…Again. Didn’t we got enough of this routine the last go around? But the citizens of Toledo elected him back into office, and thus we have to deal with him, good ,bad, or indifferent. There is no denying that Carty is an enthusiastic mayor for the city of Toledo. He is willing to go out of the way in helping Toledo, and I have heard of one story of him stopping on the side of the road to help some people (I think) pick up trash. But what drives him to help the city can also be a hindrance. It can cause him to go overboard, and the Mayor of Toledo turns in to “super hulk Carty”. Do we need to recall him? Not yet, but if Carty continues with his antics, we may need to think about it later on down the road. Face it, If Carty doesn’t like you, or you disagree, with him, he will tell you in no uncertain terms. The disagreement between Carty and WSPD that has turned into a pissing match is an example. First of all, I feel that the City of Toledo can’t be restricting from allowing or giving information to WSPD and WSPD could make a court case if they wanted. But on WSPD’s side, I do think banning any interviews by Carty is doing them, and the Citizens of Toledo a disservice. Then you have Russ Lemon from The Blade, taking his shots at WSPD for this whole issue that isn’t helping and if anything is egging it on. I know that WSPD, and The Blade as had a rough history in the past, and that in itself is turning into a pissing match with each side taking cheap shots at each other but this is getting to be comical. No wonder people are moving out of the City of Toledo. The only thing that is getting done is arguing. The politicians are arguing with each other, and then are arguing with the city officials. The Media outlets are arguing with the other Media outlets. The final result is that the City of Toledo and the surrounding areas all look like a bunch monkeys screwing footballs.

NASCAR's downfall.

As noted on an rant at Laidbackracing.com Kansas Speedway wasn't selling out this year, like they had in the past. As a side note the track near me, (Michigan International Speedway) didn’t sell out this year, for the first time in 30(?) races. Over the last few years, myself any my wife has noticed a trend that allot of bigger or newer races are no longer selling out. Atlanta, Texas, and California I don't believe was sould out. The fact is, NASCAR, the track owners, and the local hotels are pricing the NASCAR fans out that help build it NASCAR to where it is today. For paying for the extra high prices, we get the joy of watching the same sanitize driver (with a different number and sponsor) win the race every week. I've follow NASCAR for over 20 years, my wife not quite as long. She is to the point that she doesn't watch races anymore on a regularly basis, and I'm quickly getting there. Also most every week, I will record the race on the DVR, and then watch it, fast forwarding through about 1/2 the race that isn’t a commercial. . I had determined that if I just fast forward through the commercials, I can save about 2 hours of time) watching the race. Every year since the first event, my wife and her family had gone to the Brickyard 400. All but for the first couple years I had joined them. This year, will be my wife's 3rd year of not attended the race, and my 2nd. We both traveled to Rockingham's last fall race, and also travel to races at Darlington's oval. Up until then, when we went to Indy, we thought we were having fun at a race but were not. When we went to the "old school" race tracks, we realized how much fun you can have at a NASCAR race. The racing was allot better, the crowd was more relaxed. It was easier to move around the grounds of the race track, and over all it was allot of a more relaxing time. With the New speedways that now have 2 events; they are taking the racing from the core crowd that went to the “old school” race tracks. We will drive 13+ hours to go to the races at Darlington, but we will not drive 4 hours to go to a race in Chicago, the race to Indy(any more) or the race at MIS (In which we live less then 50 miles from). Other then the yearly race in Darlington, we have chosen to spend our money at the local race tracks on Friday and Saturday night. The Prices are a lot more reasonable, and the racing is a lot better.

One day parking password at INDY: $20 (note parking pass only)
Local track (Flat rock Speedway - Flat Rock, MI)
Parking - Free
Admission - $11.00 - $15.00 (depending on event)
Food and Drink - (1 person) around $10 bucks
Program - $1
Total - $22 - $26

At Flat Rock, you can see 4 or 5 hours or racing (and see all the track!!) and if you want to, you can go down to the pits to meet the drivers and look at the cars after the race. At Indy after you pay for the parking pass, for 2 to 6 dollars more you get a bottle of water. Hear the cars on the track, and wonder if you have the $80+ dollars for admission to the track. In my opinion, the money is best spent at flat rock..:)

I had to do a double take when I heard this

On hold for my local cable company, I heard them advertisie the Rock Paper Scissors Championships on A&E network. So I looked for it on the A&E website, and sure enough, they have a listing forthe Rock Paper Scissors Championships. $50, 000 goes to the winner after starting with local competitions at bars through out the country.
It goes to show that people can turn anything into a professional competition.

Random Thoughts

Do you remember when you had to make an effort to make popcorn, and not just toss a bag into the microwave?

Do you remember when you had to make an effort to make dinner, and not just toss a box of something in the microwave?..(::ding:: hot pocket is done!!)

Do you remember when you had the time to cook something for dinner and didn’t have to toss a box of something in the microwave?

With the pending strike between The Blade, and it’s unions, don’t you just get the feeling that no one is going to win, and both sides are going to look like a bunch of idiots?

F yn cn rd ths, thn yn mst’ve bn n my tpeng cls at Wshngtn jr hgh.

Do you wonder, if the lack of action by former Toledo Mayor Ford was better then the “actions” by current Toledo Mayor Carty?

How many signs does one need to let them know they are in Toledo?

Have you ever asked someone who moved to Toledo from out of town, Why?

Have you thought about setting up a “Myspace” account for your pets to see how many perverts will hit on them?

The best sure why to end a drought is to schedule an outside event that would get cancelled or postponed because of the rain. If you look at the current Toledo area racing schedule, and are able to figure out the nights that got cancelled because of rain, you will get a good idea of the races that myself and my wife tried to attend. In the last year, out of the 10 or 15 times we have attempted to go to the race track, we didn’t get rained only three or four times.

Every have your mind go blank in the middle of typing out a......?
