Everyone panic, it’s a snow emergency and other random thoughts

Well, it looks like we all made it through the snow without any issues. First I would like to thank the road crews for the city of Toledo in cleaning up the snow. Like always, they did a really good Job. It appears the Fox 36 will be shopping for a new generator over the next few days. Just a little advice. When a channel goes off the air due do a power outage. DON’T BLAME THE CABLE COMPANY!

Random Thoughts.

If I enroll my black lab in obedience school, does he qualify for a minority scholarship?

“Black lab” is Indian for “Chews or eats everything”

No matter how hard you try, you are going to spend at least $100 at Wal-Mart.

Can you get STP with jet fuel at NAPA?

If they made a tomato juice drink targeted at kids, could they call it a V6?

If you hear the words “waterbed” and “gun” in the same sentence, better be getting a mop and bucket.

Out of all the dogs breeds in this world, why doe black labs seem to have the foulest flatulence.

Under list of job titles I thought I would never see: “Professional farter

No matter how hard you try, nothing beats a good fart joke.

People have lost their sense of humor.

The Politician money grab.

The Politician money grab.

Well, once again, in the face of shrinking budgets, and smaller populations for the city of Toledo, when it comes time to balance the budget, what is the first thing out fine politicians are doing? They are finding ways to bring more money into the city’s coffers. If you remember recently they enabled the city’s tow lot to help enhanced revenue. They have also had enacted a charge for emergency runs by the fire department, and now have a plans on the table to start doing ambulance runs using the paramedics in the city’s fire department. Apparently we are not spending enough on bike paths, and “Toledo prid” signs. Face it, the economy of the city has been in the crapper for years. Partly because of the unions and partly because of politician who do the same things over and over again, thinking that “this time” it will be different. When money is short, inside of making cuts on unneeded city services, they want to raise taxes, or find other ways to raise money. In the case of ambulance runs they are taking money (and jobs) aware from at least 2 profitable businesses, and are planning on using the profits they make to help with the city’s budget. Like the tow lot, the city is trying to get into a function that should be made up of private business. It’s a business’s job, by nature, to function in a way to make profit, not the city. Yes, an ambulance run can be listed as a city function and a service provided by the city then shouldn’t we not being charging for it. After all, isn’t that what our taxes pay for? Oh, wait that’s right, they are being used for nice, under used bike paths, or those big fancy signs that remind you that Toledo is a “city with pride.” Heck, I wonder how many runs the mayor’s shower would pay for, and don’t get me started on the new county wide hotel tax to pay for the new Arena. I’m sure it will be nice but once again, this is something government should not be constructing. Our taxes should be used ONLY to provide the functions of a city.

1) Police and fire protections
2) Building and maintain the cities road and bridges.
3) Health and sanitary (Garbage pick up, restaurant inspections, bike paths don’t count)

Yes an argument can be made for city parks, but providing we have any money left over from the above 3 functions.
