End Of racing season
Last week was the end of the local racing season for us, with the GlassCity 200 @ Toledo Speedway. With the end of the season, I have some good feelings and bad feelings about this racing season. The bad feelings is the crowds and car counts thought out the season. Once again, with short track racing around in this area, the car counts and crowds was down. In the last Late Model event (before the Glasscity 200), From reports, that had a crowd around 500 and a car count less then 20. Granted we didn't go to as many events has we had in the past. Part of it was because I now work Friday nights, so now I can't make it to Toledo. Because of the issues with cat, and Christy, we didn't make as many events at we want to. We are looking forward to next year, and are going to try to buy a season ticket for flat rock.
In this area, the low car count is been happening pretty much everywhere. Normally we say, it's part of a cycle, but frankly, not many people see the cycle ending. Flat rock has event had lower then normal car counts this year.
This concerns me, especially for Toledo, which has allot of building going around the race track. I feel that is' possible that Toledo may not be there in a few years. If you are an NASCAR fan, please next year, make it to a short track. You don't need to go the whole season, but try to make at least 3 or 4 events. If every NASCAR fan that didn't go to short tracks, made 3 or 4 events a events a year, that will keep short track raving alive. Also, short track racing is a good time. Granted it's not the big boys, but there is good racing in an allot more relaxed environment
The Glasscity 200 this year, like other places, the car count is down, but it was a really good crowd. Judging from the food and beer stands, I have a feeling that crowd was allot better then the track was expecting. The first 1/2 of the race was good, and about 20 laps of the second half, but after allot of good cars dropped out, it become a 1 car show.
We are going to 1 more event this year, but it's not NASCAR and not on a short track. My Uncle Chris is going to be in Mid-Ohio in a couple weeks. He has a mid- 50'a MG that he is going to race in a Vintage race. We are looking forward to the different race, and I'll tell you what I thought about it when we get back.
